For any local Haldimand friends who may have noticed our flags at half mast last week, we wanted to share the reason. We are very sorry to have to let you know that our critically important team member Kevin DeMille passed away suddenly after some health complications on Sunday July 9th 2023. Kevin was well loved by everyone who had the pleasure of working with him. His computer tech skill set seemed to fly in the face of the saying: “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks”. Always approachable and willing to help anyone with computer, data entry or accounting software issues, he never complained but would look after each issue quickly and effectively. He also provided critically important oversight to our complex production scheduling. Kevin was one of our brightest team members and the king of “cool”. He also had the driest humor this side of the Sahara desert, that always hit the mark. Many tears have been shed for him here after his unexpected passing. Kevin was truly irreplaceable. Our Battlefield family extends our sincerest condolences to his family.
Kyle Moffett, Battlefield’s Assembly lead, training and testing, represented us well when a customer needed our help. When customers choose Battlefield, they know that during office hours we have a person who answers incoming calls after the second ring max. When technical questions arise, we get on it fast with our highly skilled team members. No customer ever wants to have revisions made to meet an application. We do our very best to avoid that need as well. But when something isn’t doing exactly what our customer needs, they hope the brand is Battlefield, because we move heaven and earth to keep our customers happy. MTU, Rolls Royce, has a highly skilled and friendly staff who facilitated this visit. We look forward to a long business relationship with them! Thanks Neil!!
Battlefield’s President Steve Fenton is pleased to announce the winner of our company wide fishing derby on June 10th was Zach Vermeulen. You can see that this was an epic moment in a very handsome young man with a massive catch. NOTE To READER: Zach and his fish can be seen by zooming in on the top center portion of the picture. The background picture was supplied by Steve Fenton to enable better perspective of the size of Zach’s fish.
Battlefield’s, Joshua Vandermeulen decided to consider working towards a trade right out of High School at our firm. Many students believe the path to good earning potential is through a minimum of four years in University. Often they are absolutely right. However, student loans usually grow dramatically every year. Many University programs do provide excellent learning, especially enabling students to know how to be in-depth thinkers and tease out the best approach to solving complex problems. However, some university paths chosen don’t lead towards any real job prospects. In 2023, Canadian’s with trades have never been in such high demand. Also, people in construction, woodworking and many other skilled positions can earn similar wages to doctors or lawyers and some do this by starting their own companies. Trades usually can be learned and apprenticed while earning on the job, without the risk of accumulating any huge student loans. Last night, Battlefield took Joshua to a fine dining restaurant in Burlington (Lord Nelson) to thank him for his efforts and developed skills to date within our CNC metal machining department. Joshua has added beautifully to our companies culture. And incidentally, our top two most senior managers in Production and Machining joined us right out of high schools located in Haldimand. They both arrived in their managing roles here through the “debt defying” skilled trade development route.
